Covenant Logistics Training Center
Chattanooga, TN
Tinker Ma is proud to have provided the architecture and interior design for Covenant Logistics’ new training center in Chattanooga, TN. This project consists of a newly constructed drivers’ residence hall and a separate training facility within the larger Covenant Headquarters Campus. Located adjacent to the truck driving training course, the instructional facility and residence hall are situated across from each other to create a common corridor with shared amenities of a 5,000-square-foot covered patio and common parking areas.
The 42,400-square-foot residence hall building is a two-story, 100-room facility consisting of brick concrete unit masonry and hollow core plank as the main structural system. The design intent was to provide a low-maintenance facility that could provide a comfortable place to promote company recruitment and retention. The rooms are efficient but maximize natural daylight with larger windows. The minimalist bedroom design simplifies the cleaning process as Covenant runs many three-day trainings throughout the year requiring fast and frequent turnover. Common spaces include a welcoming double-height lobby and reception space, dining and catering rooms, a comfortable lounge, a resource room, shower rooms, and restrooms. A metal truss and a standing seam roof highlight the entry and common areas.
The 11,100-square-foot training building accommodates driver orientation and safety courses. The metal building is programmed with four classrooms, staff offices, three training rooms for large diesel vehicle maintenance, and ample restroom facilities. Designed to be flexible, the classrooms have operable partitions allowing instructors to seat class sizes ranging from 20-100 trainees as needed. Administrative spaces include reception, offices, a doctor’s office for on-site screening, and a security hub. Back of house spaces include a laundry facility, an engineering room, and linen storage.
