Covenant Logistics Headquarters Lobby
Chattanooga, TN
Tinker Ma recently collaborated with Covenant Logistics on several design projects, including the renovation of its headquarters’ lobby. Last updated in the late 1990s, the outdated entrance was inactive and an inaccurate representation of Covenant’s brand. Appreciating the importance of offering a hospitable and energetic entry space, Covenant entrusted Tinker Ma with the task of creating an elevated aesthetic tailored to Covenant’s active family-oriented, welcoming culture.
With a primary project goal being the activation of the lobby, the design team sought to create an inviting and open atmosphere for employees and visitors alike. At its center, a 16-foot-tall, backlit feature wall serves as a focal point. Comfortable chairs provide a cozy seating area for guests, while a café serving Cadence coffee offers a welcome amenity. The café is tucked behind a partition wall, which helps keep preparation and storage areas out of sight, creates a display space for coffee-related items, and maintains the lobby’s clean and airy aesthetics.
Positioned behind the onyx stone statement piece, a gallery wall embodies Covenant’s brand identity and culture. As guests walk through the gallery from left to right, they experience company milestones from the 1980s to the present. The exhibit begins with a large photo of Covenant’s founders and a reminder of the company’s purpose and values. Relevant news articles highlight the company’s remarkable progress and impact, and a glass case displays awards that showcase achievements. The gallery not only tells Covenant’s story, but it also celebrates employees as well as the local community and charitable organizations that Covenant supports.
To the right of the gallery is a striking monumental staircase constructed with beautiful sapele mahogany wood and black steel. This new stair leads employees and their guests to a newly designed second floor, which offers lounge seating for small, informal meetings and a large custom conference table for more formal collaborative meetings or presentations.
To further elevate and activate the lobby, Tinker Ma designed a canopy to extend the lobby outdoors. The outdoor space offers seating that encourages staff to bring work outdoors for a change of scenery, have lunch with colleagues, collaborate in small groups, or simply enjoy a moment to themselves.
