Chattanooga Whiskey
Chattanooga, TN
The success of the Tennessee Stillhouse Micro-Distillery led to the company expanding operations to a full production manufacturing facility. Located at the intersection of Riverfront Parkway and MLK Boulevard in Chattanooga, along an area of revived riverfront development, plans were made to convert a vacant 45,000 square foot car dealership into the distillery, barrel house, event space, and company offices. The majority of the existing masonry building was renovated to house production equipment for grain handling, fermentation, distillation, barrel filling, barrel aging, finishing, bottling, and distribution. The existing 5,000 square foot car showroom was converted into event space and tasting bar for 250-280 guests. The remainder of the building houses 2,500 square feet of office space for staff.
A 300 square foot and 42 foot tall tower addition accommodates the nearly 30 foot tall column still. As a departure from the existing masonry walls, exposed steel columns and x-bracing, metal siding, and metal louver systems were used to create a new identity to the building by providing a new vertical focal point. The tower addition has intentional glazed areas to showcase the copper column still and doubler which are the highlights of the distillation process.
